On the Wednesday of the meeting each visiting school
set up a stall which was designed to give a flavour of the country. There were
flags, leaflets, postcards and books on display as well as work done by the
pupils before the meeting. Lithuanian children were tying homemade friendship
bracelets in their national colours, onto visitors wrists while English children
gave away hand-drawn bookmarks of the Oxford skyline. The Italian stall
displayed local crafts and books and the Spanish party dressed in national
costume and demonstrated how to use a botijo to drink water. All the stalls
also had samples of national delicacies from Lithuanian bread and cheese to
Spanish turon, English shortbread and Italian biscotti. All of these and more
were enjoyed by the Polish children from the host school who visited the stalls
to find out more about their European partners.
