VISIT TO THE SOLINA LAKE DAM
and to the water treatment plant and wastewater treatment plant in Przemyśl.
ABOUT SOLINA DAM
Solina Dam is the largest dam in Poland.
Dam’s construction was finished in 1969 and it covered 9 villages under the
largest artificially created lake in Poland. The lake itself has an area of 22
square kilometers.
Solina Lake made an impact on the environment
– the annual temperatures in Bieszczady Mountains have risen slightly. It’s
worth noting that the lake is a wonderful place for sailors, with steady winds
and calm water surface.
Solina
Dam: The dam is a very impressive structure. 8
years in making, it took 2000 workers to build a concrete colossus measuring
nearly 665 meters in length, 82 m high and 8,8 m wide. Dam can currently
generate nearly 200 MW of electricity per day. On top of it a road was laid -
which turned into a popular tourist destination – a promenade offering a
perfect view of the dam and the Solina Lake. Inside the dam, you can find
several service tunnels. Two of them can be visited by tourists.
